The Kapha Season: How Spring Affects Your Body and Energy

In Ayurveda, early spring marks the beginning of Kapha season, made up of the water and earth elements. Bringing stability and nourishment but when it accumulates, it can also lead to slow digestion, congestion and low energy.

Even though we love spring, the transition from winter’s dense, heavy energy into a lighter, more active rhythm isn’t always so smooth and easy. You might notice feeling heavier, experiencing bloating, mood shifts, slower mornings, or even craving heavier foods.

Understanding the qualities of each season and your unique constitution is the first step in learning what truly supports you. If you don’t yet know your Mind-Body Type (Dosha) you can take the Mind-Body Quiz now.

Signs Your Body May Be Experiencing Excess Kapha

During the Kapha season, everyone naturally experiences a little more heaviness. If Kapha is strong in your constitution, you may feel it more clearly.

If you feel…

• low energy or sluggishness
• bloating or slow digestion
• congestion or seasonal allergies
• brain fog or lack of motivation
• difficulty waking up in the morning

your body may be experiencing excess Kapha.
These are natural seasonal signals that the body may need lighter foods, more movement and stimulating habits.

The food you eat can support balance or slowly create more imbalance.

By adjusting our habits and food with the seasons, you can make a big difference in your digestion and daily energy. Small daily choices can either lighten the body or add to this seasonal heaviness.

Feel heavy or congested?

An iced latte or creamy dessert can make it worse.
A warm vegetable soup or ginger tea can help restore balance instead.

Ayurveda follows a simple rule:
Like increases like. Opposites create balance.

When the season brings heaviness, cold and moisture, introducing lighter, warmer and more stimulating foods + habits helps restore digestion and balance.

Rather than following a list of foods or habits, notice their qualities and how they affect your body.

Instead of asking “Is this food healthy?” the question becomes:
“What does my body need? How will this food make my body feel?”

Learning to recognize these patterns helps build a more supportive relationship with food and daily habits
